Rassa is changing how we learn craft-based skills online - starting with cooking. Before you even step foot in the kitchen we help you learn from the stories and experiences of people behind the cuisine (from learning about Tahini in Palestine to understanding the importance of hunting from an Irish hunter) - giving you the context and cultural significance behind what you're cooking. Our instructors will then walk you through the ingredients (supplied by us), helping you develop your own recipes and sharing them with the community of cooks taking part.

Recipe Pages

A Complete Experience

Throughout our experiences and researching of recipe platforms, we discovered the hard truths of long scrolling, invasive non-related imagery, and lack of information. Our goal was to build something that reduced cognitive load, presented ALL the aspects of cooking and allowed room for cooks to use substitute ingredients for dietary requirements.

What Was Built

Within our design, we prioritised a simple tab menu to reduce the clutter of information on a single page. We split this menu into ‘overview’, ‘preparation’, ‘method’, and ‘make it your own’ based on the order in which people cook and follow a recipe. As part of our mission of cultural education through food, we made sure to include the information about the roots of a dish and the 3 major techniques taught throughout the process. We simply wanted to remove the stress from cooking so individuals could focus solely on the process of learning and perfecting their skills around that cuisine.

The Hub

Getting Started

With such a comprehensive course, we knew the importance of navigating and exploring our platform would be key to customer satisfaction thus encouraging higher engagement.

With all 3 courses, we built a hub page to highlight the important areas of information customers needed to learn before the course started alongside any actions required to take ahead of certain course dates e.g. booking their live class and introducing themselves in the community.

Below the ‘introduction video’ features weekly accordions with snippets of what the customer will learn every week/month.

This design was conceptualised through design sessions and competitor research in order to create something visually intuitive and aligned with our brand.

Course Pages

Cultural Inspiration

Rooted at the heart of the Rassa is celebrating culture and challenging underrepresentation. Therefore these core values dictate the business and product motives. Our ‘Course pages’ pages allowed users to explore the influences of regional dishes. Each course page ‘Ireland, Israel and The Philippines’ brought a different style of branding fitting to the culture and food.

“Sometimes we cook dishes but don’t understand why we cook them or where the ingredients really came from. It’s ignorance and food appropriation is a big thing” - Cecile

The Design

We built each page with the cultural aspects in mind, using different fonts, photography and colours that fit the authentic brand style whilst keeping to a consistent layout. We outline; that each month takes you on a journey exploring specific influences broken down through recipes, stories, techniques, ingredients and more.

Stories

The Adventures

In each Rassa story, we explore the ‘rice fields of the Philippines to Tahini in Palestine and understanding the importance of hunting from an Irish hunter’.

Our stories are a significant aspect of surfacing the cultural influences of each cuisine, recipe, and ingredient.

With every lesson, you learn through watching and reading the stories curated by the Rassa team that can then be applied in every aspect of one’s cooking journey.
